EUW/UUW 115 Thai Language 1

Course Synopsis

This course aims to introduce student to the basic structure of the Thai language. Student will be exposed to new vocabulary, simple sentence structures, speeches and texts. Listening to and producing simple dialogues based on everyday activities. Student also will be introduced to the Thai writing system, tone system and tone discrimination, reading varies simple passages and writing simple sentences.

 

Course Outcome

Upon the completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Practice listening and understand simple dialogues in Thai
  • Practice greeting and express conversation base on daily life and able to pronounce Thai word and discern tone difference.
  • Read and write simple Thai script.

EUW/UUW 215 Thai Language 2

Course Synopsis

As in the first course, this course also emphasizes on listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will be exposed to vocabulary expansion, speaking using dialogues for different purposes and different contexts. Students will be introduced to simple essential grammar and sentence structures. Students will also be exposed to reading short passages and writing longer sentences to compose shot passages.

 

Course Outcome

Upon the completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Practice listening, understand, and speak longer dialogues in various topics for different purposes. Able to pronounce Thai words and have acquired tone discrimination.
  • Practice reading simple texts independently.
  • Write Thai sentence and compose short passage.

EUW/UUW 315 Thai Language 3

Course Synopsis

This course will expand and use more complex vocabulary, exposure to sophisticated sentences to read and write longer essays. Students also will be exposed to use various materials such as tapes, short articles from magazine or internet for independent study to enhance their skill.

 

Course Outcome

Upon the completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Practice listening and understand from dialogues, song and short article.
  • Express ideas, feelings, describes, and apply it into different situation and event.
  • Read longer texts in various topics with correct pronunciation and understand the main idea from task given.
  • Understand more sophisticated Thai sentence structures, categorize type of word and able to write short essay on various topic.

EUW/UUW 415 Thai Language 4

Course Synopsis

This course will expand and use more complex vocabulary relevant to society, religion, culture and economy; speak and react to radio or TV broadcast, newspaper articles, passage or texts read and learn about language styles used in the media. Learn more essential grammar point to make longer essay, make note and express idea of texts read. Student also will have the idea and understand Thai culture, manner, value and beliefs through the text.

 

Course Outcome

Upon the completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Understand and acquire useful set of vocabulary to practice listening independently from various types of media.
  • Describe, give point of view and discuss on what one have heard or have read.
  • Read and understand short articles and news in various topics and able to analyze the main content and idea from the text.
  • Understand and use more essential Thai grammar, categorize type of word to write longer paragraphs or essays.
