Course Synopsis

This course is designed to help students achieve confidence in extracting, evaluating and synthesizing information with a view to writing good technical documents. Various theories of technical communication will be introduced throughout this course. The emphasis will be upon writing clear, concise, accurate, conventional, appropriate materials on a worthwhile subject of interest or technical field as specified in the assignment. Students will learn the techniques of analysis of the writing situation, methods of investigation of the problem, the functional organization of the report itself and the writing of the report to the preparation of the final copy. Students are also required to formally present their research report orally at the end of the semester.

Course Outcome

Upon the completion of this course, students should be able to:

Write clearly and concisely in a technical style.
Apply visuals, formats, strategies and organizational schemes to reports or correspondence.
Manage content according to the knowledge, needs and bias of an audience.
Utilize communication skills learnt and to deliver an academic oral presentation using power point slides individually and in groups.

DUW 112 DIPLOMA ENGLISH 1

Course Synopsis

This one semester course is programmed and designed to remedy students’ weaknesses in the use of English and to raise their proficiency level. It covers the major aspects of grammar, writing, reading, listening and speaking; and prepares them for the Diploma English 2 in UniMAP. The course will adopt a learner-centered approach and interactive approach in which students will be actively involved in various situations requiring communication in English.

Course Outcome

Upon the completion of this course, students should be able to:

Understand various grammatical items and use them appropriately in speech and written work.
Develop their English skills with particular emphasis speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Use English in everyday situation.
DUW 212 DIPLOMA ENGLISH 2

Course Synopsis

This one semester course is programmed and designed to remedy students’ weaknesses in the use of English and to raise their proficiency level. This course is the continuation of DUW112 Diploma English 2. It covers the major aspects of grammar, writing, reading, listening and speaking. The course will adopt a learner-centered approach and interactive approach in which students will be actively involved in various situations requiring communication in English.
